Expanding Workplace and Access; Dental Bootcamp Supports Care for Low-Income Children

Growing Career Paths in Dental Assisting Amid Continued Demand

San Luis Obispo, CA, [September 3, 2024] – In response to a critical need for dental assistants, SLO Partners is launching its third Dental Assistant Bootcamp starting September 24.

This marks the third time in just eight months that SLO Partners has run this bootcamp, an unprecedented frequency highlighting the intense demand for this program—the highest the organization has ever seen.

This need is especially pressing for organizations like Tolosa Children’s Dental Center, which provides essential dental care to children from low-income families in the county. After hiring graduates from SLO Partners’ bootcamps, the center has been able to hire more dental assistants, which in turn allowed them to bring on more dentists and expand their services to more children in need.

Alexandra Chamberlain, Executive Director at Tolosa Children’s Dental Center, said, “SLO Partners is helping to fill a gap in a field that’s crucial for our community. By providing us with well-trained dental assistants, we’re able to continue serving children who otherwise might not have access to dental care.”

The staffing shortages have placed a strain on many dental practices, some of which struggle to stay open without sufficient dental assistants. This bootcamp is designed to bridge that gap, contributing positively to the local economy while offering career advancement for those looking to enter the dental field.

“Our ability to adapt and update our programs based on real-time feedback ensures we meet the evolving needs of our community,” said Dr. James Brescia, San Luis Obispo County Superintendent of Schools. “The unprecedented demand that has led us to launch a third Dental Assistant Bootcamp in such a short time speaks volumes about the critical need we’re addressing, particularly those who rely on access to accessible dental care.”

Running through November 7, 2024, the bootcamp has 30 spots available and will feature an updated curriculum including an X-ray certification. The program is designed with flexibility in mind, offering classes in the evenings and weekends to accommodate those already employed. This approach demonstrates SLO Partners’ commitment to meeting the needs of both local businesses and career seekers.

The cost of the program is $349. For more information about the Dental Assistant Bootcamp and to apply, please visit https://slopartners.org/dental-assistant. Due to high demand, early registration is encouraged.
