Rising Stars.
Rising Careers.

SLO Partners is preparing the next generation of Central Coast talent for the jobs of tomorrow, starting right here in high school.

The Central Coast is in the middle of an aerospace and advanced manufacturing boom. Vandenberg Space Force Base is busier than it’s been since the 1960s. More than 6,000 new jobs are projected across the region by 2027. And the industries driving that growth need skilled workers. The next generation of that talent is sitting in SLO County classrooms right now.

SLO Partners, an initiative of the San Luis Obispo County Office of Education, is bridging the gap between education and industry. Through hands-on training programs, real-world mentorship, and direct connections to local employers, we’re helping high school students discover careers they didn’t know existed — and giving them a clear path to get there.

How We Do It

Modern Manufacturing Bootcamp

7 weeks. Real skills. Real jobs.

Our Modern Manufacturing Bootcamp gives adults and students hands-on training in the skills that power today’s aerospace and advanced manufacturing industries. Participants build skills in areas like precision machining, assembly, and technical problem-solving through engaging projects such as 3D printing, wiring remote-controlled cars, or even building drones.

Graduates don’t just earn a certificate; they get connected directly to local companies that are actively hiring. It’s one of the fastest pathways into a high-skill, high-demand career on the Central Coast.

Bootcamp graduates also give back by stepping into local high schools as mentors and instructors, bringing real-world experience into the classroom.

Pre-Apprenticeship Program

Career-ready training, built into the school day.

Through our Pre-Apprenticeship Program, high school students begin building the technical skills used in fields such as advanced manufacturing, aerospace, healthcare, and education directly at their own school. Students can earn a pre-apprenticeship certification that gives them a real credential and a head start on a career pathway before they graduate.

SLO Partners bootcamp graduates and instructors bring this program to life, connecting students with people who have already walked the path from training to employment.

It’s not just career exploration, it’s career preparation.

Sometimes the best way to spark interest in a career is to put the tools in someone’s hands.

Starting this spring, SLO Partners bootcamp graduates will visit local high schools to lead one-off, hands-on manufacturing projects. This program gives students a firsthand look at what these careers actually feel like. No lectures. No slideshows. Just real people, real projects, and real possibilities.

Why It Matters

Career opportunities across the Central Coast are growing fast, and many of the jobs being created in industries like aerospace, advanced manufacturing, healthcare, education, and skilled trades don’t require a four-year degree. Instead, they require the right skills, the right training, and the right connections. That’s exactly what SLO Partners programs are designed to do: help local youth prepare for the modern job market while building a strong local talent pipeline for Central Coast employers.

A lot of people don’t realize these kinds of careers exist right here on the Central Coast. Someone could be helping assemble a satellite payload going into space or working on the next generation of flying cars.”
